Paid training is provided right from day one. Bus Operators are employed on a traineeship program leading to the award of Certificate III in Transport & Logistics. Once the traineeship is completed there are many and varied opportunities awaiting you.
State Transit provides extensive paid in-house training programs to prepare employees for future promotional opportunities and for implementation of new technology. Promotional opportunities exist in a diverse range of areas such as rostering, scheduling, service planning, depot operations management, customer service, finance and administration, Bus Operator training and safety and accident prevention.
Bus Operators who have completed their traineeship are also eligible to apply for an adult apprenticeship in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or Vehicle Building; or Study Assistance for external tertiary studies related to future promotional opportunities.
Bus driving is one job that cannot be taken “off shore”. So with the backing of the NSW Government, you not only have a job for life, you will have a career path limited only by your drive and ambition.
Applying to become a Bus Operator
You only need to apply once to the region of your first preference. Should there be limited vacancies at your preferred region you may be considered for other regions depending on your current home location. Please note you may need to obtain a copy of your RTA driving history in order to answer some of the questions in the pre-screen. You will be asked at a later stage to provide a copy of your driving history to verify your answers in the pre-screen.
