What is the NSW Police Force?

Find out more about the NSW Police Force.
Why did you join the police force?
I joined the police force because it presented an opportunity to experience something a little different, something new with significant opportunity for promotion and an interesting career. Policing was not my life long ambition, but it has become an incredible career path for me.
Where did you start?
I began as a Police Constable in 1987 based in Wagga Wagga, where I worked in a variety of positions including General Duties, Child Mistreatment Unit and the Anti-Theft Squad. From there I became one of the first women to run my own station, a single unit location in Grong Grong, where I worked closely with the community. I have worked in Sutherland in beat policing and the Victim Support Unit, in Wollongong as the Domestic Violence Liaison Officer before being promoted to Sergeant as the Project Officer in the South Eastern Region. I was promoted in 2002 as an HR Manager to the rank of Inspector. I am still an operational Police Officer, I still have my service revolver and if required to I can still walk the beat and conduct an arrest.
What is the best part of your job?
The teamwork and life skills it requires are all part of what is great about police work. No day is the same. It is an essential service to the community and I have the opportunity to contribute to my community through my work every day. Over the 22 years I have been in the Police Force I have experienced a variety of the positions available; from General Duties to being part of the Victim Support Unit to becoming HR Manager.
Policing is a challenging but rewarding career. Be prepared to work hard, but know that hard work pays off. The NSW Police Force offers a great salary package with great working conditions including flexible hours and there are over one hundred career paths to choose from. Policing is a career for life.
